It is located <strong>80 km from Ioannina<\/strong>. However, the occupying German army destroyed the village during the cleansing operations of 1943-44. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Currently it has about 127 residents.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-heading\">Brief Historical Information<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There have been several opinions during the last decades about the origin of its name. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to <a href=\"https:\/\/laista1.wordpress.com\/%CE%BB%CE%AC%CF%8A%CF%83%CF%84%CE%B1\/%CE%B9%CF%83%CF%84%CE%BF%CF%81%CE%B9%CE%BA%CE%AD%CF%82-%CF%83%CE%B5%CE%BB%CE%AF%CE%B4%CE%B5%CF%82-%CE%B3%CE%B9%CE%B1-%CF%84%CE%B7-%CE%BB%CE%AC%CF%8A%CF%83%CF%84%CE%B1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Ioannis Kogoulis<\/a>, the word Laista is derived from the words: <strong>lai-sta<\/strong> and means: blackish sit (the sites). The word lai is purely Aromanian (Latin-origin Vlach dialect). In addition, the word sta (sitting) is derived from the ancient Greek verb stand (stand).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<script async=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-6914861690313656\" crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block; text-align:center;\" data-ad-layout=\"in-article\" data-ad-format=\"fluid\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-6914861690313656\" data-ad-slot=\"6494896283\"><\/ins>\n<script>\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Those that stay in the village during the winter will have noticed that, when it starts to snow, the sites around the village are the first to be whitewashed. Then, snow comes in the village as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The inhabitants of Laista, among other things, were also engaged in farming. They naturally noticed that this part does not hold snow as the surrounding areas. Therefore, the place was related to the identification of areas where they could graze animals in the winter. The selection of the site for the installation and moving of the residents of neighbouring settlements, which were dissolved, is not random after all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today the village lives from farming, logging and its two guesthouses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Laista is a beautiful village with a stunning view that really captivates you. One\u2019s eye travels over the top of the trees to the Alpine figure of the famous \u201cRed Korfi\u201d of Tymfi or \u201cTsuka Rossa \u2018in Vlach.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<figure village.
