But the most ancient written testimony of Vyliza is the icon of St. John the Baptist dating back to 1676.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to <a href=\"https:\/\/apeirosgaia.wordpress.com\/2011\/09\/28\/%CF%84%CE%BF-%CE%BC%CE%BF%CE%BD%CE%B1%CF%83%CF%84%CE%AE%CF%81%CE%B9-%CF%84%CE%B7%CF%82-%CE%B2%CF%8D%CE%BB%CE%B9%CE%B6%CE%B1%CF%82\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Apeiros Gaia<\/a>, the monastery was one of the most important monasteries of Epirus in the past years, it had a rich library and had a great participation in the local community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<script async=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-6914861690313656\" crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block; text-align:center;\" data-ad-layout=\"in-article\" data-ad-format=\"fluid\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-6914861690313656\" data-ad-slot=\"6494896283\"><\/ins>\n<script>\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 1893, however, the monastery was abandoned and then destroyed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since 1981, however, the monastery has been restored and today it is actually a jewel. To visit it some follow the 2 km trail that starts outside the village of Matsouki with a duration of about 30-40 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The monastery is dedicated to the Annunciation and celebrates on the 25 of March and 15th of
