ABOUT THE MONASTERY OF SAINT PARASKEVI

The monastery of Saint Paraskevi is built on the edge of Vikos Gorge at Monodendri . It is one of the oldest convents in Epirus.

The monastery is located about 800 meters from the central square of Monodendri. It is built in one of the most impressive landscapes of the region, on the edge of the Vikos Gorge. The church of the convent was built in the 15th century by the lord Michael Voevodas. In addition, its paintings were made during the 15th, 18th and 19th century. The image of Agia Paraskevi in the temple, was made in the 17th century.

In less than a kilometer from the square of Monodendri, the convent of Agia Paraskevi is literally “hanging” on the rocks. The 10 minute route in a path with stone leads to the monastery.

After the monastery, a carved path up the rock is following the footsteps of the Greeks who were chased by the Turks and found refuge in vaulted caves above the ravine.
