ABOUT THE VILLAGE SKAMNELI
Skamneli village belongs to the famous Zagorochoria. It is built to last stream of Tymfi before Gyftokampos. The history of the village according to the findings is dated from prehistoric times. Within walking distance from the village you can find the ruins of Pelasgian walls.
History and Information
During the German occupation the village was burned by the Germans and as a result today it has lost some of its traditional image. However there are several old houses, stone paths and squares. The church of the Agioi Apostoloi, built in 1793, dominates the central square. It also worth visiting the Monasteries of Agia Paraskevi and Agios Nikolaos.
Skamneli offers good food in restaurants and taverns and accommodation in beautiful hotels and guesthouses.
Sarakatsanikes Stanes are created almost next to the road connecting Skamneli with Laista-Iliochori and they are a faithful representation of Sarakatsani seasonal settlement.
